On the second anniversary of the rigged elections in Belarus, "Viasna" human rights defenders hung up posters with famous expressions of fellow political prisoners - Ales Bialiatski, Valiantsin Stefanovic, Uladzimir Labkovich - on one of the streets in Vilnius.

In a letter, Valiantsin Stefanovic shared his thoughts on imprisonment.

"Prison is taking up on me, people get used to everything, so it is no longer frightening. So I'm no longer afraid, as I'm already in prison. That's why I'm not going anywhere. I'll stay here, because if I leave, I'll never come back. They have nothing to scare me with, because I'm not afraid of prison anymore. That's my decision."

Uladzimir Labkovich sent a touching letter in response to the parcel he received from his supporters.

"I am very fond of everything related to Antiquity, that's why it was so nice to receive a postcard with Athens. Of course, with Minsk too. I would very much like to walk around Minsk with my wife and children, but I'm afraid it will never happen. Somehow, I have completely lost hope that there is a way out of here, that liberation will come eventually. It is very difficult to stay here for so long."

The Minsk Municipal Court announced the sentence to "Viasna" members: Marfa Rabkova got 15 years in colony, Andrei Chapiuk - 6.

"I saw so many kind and bright faces, I saw so many truepeople that I am sure that we will definitely overcome everything, it can't be the other way. Every time we help each other, care for each other, give a helping hand, express solidarity, when our heart is not deaf to other people's pain, we bring our future, our Belarus, closer. Andrei Chapiuk's last words in court.

"I know that everyone will be accountable for their actions and decisions to the public. It should not be taken as a threat. Reality shows that truth, objectivity and justice are stronger than the gangster methods of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the KGB. People are not afraid to take the path of struggle for human rights!"

Vadim Zharomsky, Marfa Rabkova's husband, met with her in the pre-trial detention centre after her trial.

"I gave her all the regards - she is very grateful to everyone. I told about the international support and the reaction to the court verdict of the international community - she was happy and satisfied that she wasn't forgotten. She took the verdict adequately, as she says: "Nonsense." She doesn't even count on amnesty... But she hopes for the best!"

Valiantsin Stefanovic sent a letter to freedom.

"Whatever happens to us, "Viasna" has been and will be! We are already 27 years old, and I am sure that we will celebrate our 30th anniversary together."

Leanid Sudalenka turned 56 years old.

Pavel Levinau, human rights defender of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, gave a comment on his friendship with "Viasna" human rights defender:

"Leanid Sudalenka is in prison, but his work lives on. The criminal case against Leanid is the revenge of the authorities for his human rights workfor the fact that he honestly represented Belarus on the international stage. I believe in him and that he will take the path prepared for him with dignity. And I wish - not only to him, but also to myself - to hug my brother in human rights defense as soon as possible".

Political prisoner, human rights defender and volunteer of the HRC "Viasna", Tatsiana Lasitsa, was unexpectedly released from the colony in Homel. Lasitsa spent 1 year and 8 months behind bars. The reason for her release was a pardon.

Ales Bialiatski turned 60 years old!

"Smuggling" and "financing of protests" - those are the charges against the politically imprisoned "Viasna" human rights defenders and those charges have gotten worse.

"Viasna" has won the Albie Awards 2022, established by the Clooney Foundation for Justice.

"For more than two decades, together with my husband and our brave colleagues, we have been fighting for democracy in Belarus. As the leader of "Viasna" he should have stood here today and received this great award, but he can't do it because he is behind bars."

Nobel laureate in literature Sviatlana Aleksievich: "Bialiatski deserved the Nobel Prize long time ago".

"I consider Bialiatski a mythological figure, a symbol of the Belarusian struggle. To say he deserved it - that's not enoughhis has been his prize for a long time. Valiantsin Stefanovic celebrated his 50th birthday in prison.

Let them put me in jail for that, it would be honour or me to be sentensed for that, I'm a human rights defender.

I'm proud of it! To them I'm a smuggler, but to the people I'm the one who's been helping them all these years. Yes, that's me! I was the right person in the right place, I was there until the end."

Uladzimir Labkovich turned 44 years old.

"I have just received a wonderful parcel from you with such charming cards, and at once I decided to write a letter. Letters arrive very poorly and it hurts, of course, because letters are the most joyful thing here. I live day by day waiting for letters. I am losing my sight, but I write letters to Nina and the children every day. If only they didn't get lost. I really hope that eventually my letters reach you."

Valyantsin Stefanovic was re-elected as FIDH vice-president.

"Solidarity in the field of human rights is a powerful force, and I believe that soon I will be able to join you to walk together on this difficult path to the global harmony, love and peace."

Lawyer Pavel Sapelka presented the French President with a T-shirt with the image of the imprisoned chairperson of "Viasna" Ales Bialiatski.

"Thanks to the International Federation for Human Rights, which for 100 years has been involved in all the battles. "Every now and then, I hear the distant sounds of the city. I feel as if I were dead and crossed out of life; my life seems to have been put on hold. Somewhere there, upstairs, life goes on as usual without me. But I am not dead, I am alive! I cannot die here, because I love life so much, I love my family and those who are dear to me. That is why I will do my best to return to you, to have my life back. No matter how long it will take.

I am doing fine, don't worry about me. I am hoping for the best, though I guess, they are going to be tough on us, with a term being ostentatiously long."

The General Prosecutor's Office sent a criminal case against Ales Bialiatski, Valiantsin Stefanovic and Uladzimir Labkovich to court.

Ales Bialiatski is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. His wife Natallya Pinchuk received the prize instead of the human rights defender who is a political prisoner.

"This prize belongs to all my friends among human rights defenders, to all civic activists, to dozens of thousands of Belarusians coming through beatings, tortures, arrests and prison. This prize is an award to the millions of Belarusian citizens who chose to stand up for their civil rights. She underlined the wrenching state of human rights in the country."

Valiantsin Stefanovic: "A verdict for Viasna that is given in spring is symbolic".

"As for the terms, I guess the court trial will start in the second half of January or in early February. The proceedings will last long, until spring. A verdict for Viasna that is given in spring is symbolic )): Given the appeal petition, I will have had as much as three years of imprisonment already served. International human rights defender Sasha Kulaeva addressed imprisoned Viasna members with an open letter.

"We're so looking forward to seeing you! We believe that our meeting is very near, we wish you to have strength to survive this terrifying journey, we do everything so that meaninglessness of your punishment becomes clear to those who are exercising it, because your work continues, your innocence in absurd charges is heard all over the world, each day spent by you in prison adds weight to your influence and enlarges the number of your supporters."

103 Nobel laureates expressed solidarity with Ales Bialiatski.

Natallia Pinchuk made a speech at the World Expression Forum.

"Liberation of prisoners is not a subject of endless negotiations, not a goods for trade, but a sole way out of the deadlock in which the country and the people were brought by the dictator. Negotiations with Lukashenka, behind whom there is Putin's shadow, have no results. So huge respect to those states and politicians, who express integrity and do not have illusions.

We also need to hope for firmness of international organizations, which are to guard democratic values and peace."
