Head of Viasna's office in Homiel was arrested in the morning on his way to the office. In the editors office of "Homielskaja Viasna" he left his own vision of the situation regarding searches and detention, with a label "to publish after arrest". Arrest of Tatsiana Lasitsa.
Volunteer of Viasna office in Homiel was planning to fly to Vilnius, however, on that day the connection with her was lost. The airport informed that she didn't use the ticket. The next morning it turned out that Tatsiana had been arrested and placed in a detention facility in Homiel. -

There was no contact with Ales Bialiatski since this morning. Around 18 o'clock it became known that he was detained. The human rights defender's home, as well as at "Viasna" offices were searched. -

In the morning Stefanovic's apartment was searched. All of the equipment was taken and Valiantsin was taken away for interrogation. -

Uladzimir and his wife Nina Labkovich were detained on 14 July after a search in their apartment. Afterwards they were taken to the Department for Financial Investigations and then to the interrogation at the Investigative Committee. -

The volunteer was reported for drying a towel on a board bed. Meanwhile, there was only one small radiator in the cell for all prisoners, and they had to dry their belongings in whatever way they could. -

Ambulance is called for Tatsiana Lasitsa during the court proceedings. "As you may know, they made the court hearing closed, just to be on the safe side. Dark things are done behind closed doors, and you can't argue with that. I appealed, however, demanding that the trial be made public."

During these 100 days, their families, friends and colleagues have not received too many letters and news from them. Uladzimir Labkovich turns 43 years.
"I celebrated my birthday warmly. We had a hand-made cake with tea, I wrote a fairy-tale for children. Also there were letters with greetings. Unfortunately, a lot of greetings got lost, but it gives more reasons to appreciate every letter that could get through."

Leanid Sudalenka and Tatsiana Lasitsa sentenced.
Tatsiana Lasitsa was sentenced for two and a half years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony, and Leanid Sudalenka - for 3 years of imprisonment. "All witnesses in court said the truth, and this is important. It is heartwarming to hear how people, who were summoned to court, say "thank you", addressing me in the cage. And this is despite the judge's remarks."

I recently had a very bad cold. Cough at night, fever for a couple of days. But I got over, my wife handed over the medicine. The only thing that matters is that health does not fail, after all, we are not young anymore."

It has been two weeks since the last letter from other people (since January 11). And here we stand, gazing into the black hole, trying to shout out. But everything disappears in this hole: dreams, hopes, time, warmth."

"They have their own rules and requirements, which allow certain things to be left behind or simply discarded. Whether or not I will be able to write letters there, whether there will be time... I don't know. There is a possibility to communicate, call relatives, even via Skype or Viber."

"I calmed myself down with the phrase: what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. And I also quietly sang "Kupalinka" so I wouldn't be scared.
When I was in court and saw so many people, I wanted to go home so badly. Just walk out the door. And I felt that these 19 months in prison had never happened, and it was all just a nightmare. But these were also bitter thoughts, I know, I need to survive and endure these difficult times."

The Ukrainian Centre for Civil Liberties and the Russian human rights organisation "Memorial" have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize along with Ales Bialiatski. The human rights defenders remained handcuffed and behind bars while in the hearing room of the Leninsky District Court of the city of Minsk. The human rights defenders filed a request that the court proceedings be held in Belarusian and that the handcuff, viewed as degrading treatment, be removed . Both requests were dismissed.
Katsiaryna Yanshyna who works in cooperation with the Memorial Human Rights Defense Center came from Russia to attend the court trial as an independent observer. The journalist was detained and arrested for 15 days, after that deported from Belarus. -

Uladzimir Labkovich complained about feeling unwell during the court trial, an ambulance was called to help him on 10 and 16 January. Both times, the doctors claimed that there were no grounds to take him to the hospital and that he was able toparticipate in the court proceedings. Throughout the eighteen months of being in custody, the human rights defender complained in his letters of deteriorating health, persistent headaches, insomnia and impaired eyesight. -

During the court proceedings against Ales Bialiatski, Uladzimir Labkovich and Valiantsin Stefanovic, it was disclosed that officers of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption (GUBAZiK) had used bugging equipment in the visiting room at Detention Facility No. 3 while Leanid Sudalenka had a meeting with his wife two months after his detention. The prosecutor pointed out that Leanid asked his wife to keep receipts evidencing fees paid to the lawyer and payments for medicines and vitamin pills she bought for him. -

Consideration of the appeal and the prosecutor's protest in relation to the verdicton Ales Bialiatski, Uladzimir Labkovich and Valiantsin Stefanovic took place in Minsk City Court. On the Day of Political Prisoners in Belarus PEN International published a letter signed by 103 Nobel laureates, which expressed solidarity with writer, human rights defender, Nobel peace prize laureate and PEN member Ales Bialiatski and condemned violent, ongoing and systematic suffocation of independent opinions by Belarusian authorities. -

She stated that her husband Ales Bialiatski, all imprisoned human rights defenders and all political prisoners in Belarus must be released unconditionally. "Liberation of prisoners is not a subject of endless negotiations, not a goods for trade, but a sole way out of the deadlock in which the country and the people were brought by the dictator. Negotiations with Lukashenka, behind whom there is Putin's shadow, have no results. So huge respect to those states and politicians, who express integrity and do not have illusions.
We also need to hope for firmness of international organizations, which are to guard democratic values and peace." -

Walk of solidarity in Vilnius with imprisoned Viasna members.
Human rights defenders took part in the ĖJIMAS walk for 5 and 10 kilometers in Vilnius. They walked out in t-shirts with pictures of their detained "Viasna" colleagues and in this way expressed solidarity with those who are at this time in prisons and cannot freely walk around the city and breathe fresh air. -

Well-known historian Timothy Snyder became the voice of Ales Bialiatski in Andrei Kureichyk's art installation at the Oslo Freedom Forum 2023 - the largest human rights forum in the world held annually in Oslo, New York and Taipei. "Voices of the New Belarus" represent 16 monologues of Belarusian political prisoners, including Ales Bialiatski. -
